Useful guides and important documents if you’re attending classes and / or events at our Edinburgh chapter in Scotland.

Black Boar Handbook

Our school’s handbook is an excellent reference document covering all the key aspects related to Black Boar’s structure and administration. It also contains important information about our ethos, approach to teaching, weapon syllabus and what’s expected of our students. All Black Boar members should read and familiarise themselves with it’s content. We’ve linked the current version below which you can download.

Please note, the handbook may be amended from time to time, so check back periodically to obtain the most up to date version.

Advanced Scholar Assessment Form

Free scholars (Black Boar members who’ve completed their initial smallsword and military sabre assessments) will develop their weapon skills further through participation in the advanced scholar syllabus, taught in class. To pass the advanced scholar assessment, students must demonstrate their understanding of the new techniques they’ve learned during self-directed free play sessions, observed by Black Boar’s lead instructor. You can record your progress on the advanced scholar assessment form. We’ve linked a template document below which you can download. You should print a copy and keep it with you when attending classes.

For more information about our assessment and progression structure, visit our grading system page.

Medical and Emergency Contact Form

We recommend that all participants at Black Boar classes and / or events, even if you’re attending infrequently, have any relevant medical information and emergency contact details available on them in case of an unexpected issue. This is especially important should you become incapacitated, as it will help our instructors / teachers and medical responders to assess the situation more effectively, and a close family member or friend to be contacted, as appropriate.

We’ve linked a template document below which you can download. This should be completed, printed out and brought with you to any classes and / or events you attend.

Please note, as per our privacy policy we don’t collect, store or maintain medical information or emergency contact details. Don’t email your completed form to us, or try to send it to us by any other means, as it will be immediately and permanently deleted. Instead, make sure you keep a physical copy on your person and in an easily accessible place (e.g. your pocket or bag).
