How to Find Us

Please note, the venue is not directly on the Grassmarket. To access it, you’ll need to go up Hunter’s Close (a small side street), which is located at the end of the Grassmarket. At the top of Hunter’s Close you’ll find the main gate for the Heriot’s Centre.

Use the intercom at the gate to gain entry (press buzzer No. 2 and the Heriot’s Centre reception staff will let you in). Go to the main reception area, where our Black Boar team will greet you.

The sports centre is separate from the George Heriot’s School, so please don’t go to the main school entrance on Lauriston Place as you won’t be able to gain access to the venue from there.

Some key things to be aware of about the Heriot’s Centre for Sport and Exercise.

Transport

Being in the heart of Edinburgh, you can easily access the Heriot’s Centre by public transport, taxi, or even walking or cycling. Lothian bus services run regularly in the area and stop nearby.

Parking

If you intend to use your own transport, do be aware that there is no dedicated car park at the Heriot’s Centre. Limited street parking may be available on the Grassmarket and in surrounding streets, but parking is heavily controlled in Edinburgh and it’s often difficult to find spaces! You’ll typically need to pay for street parking in the area.

Changing Rooms

There are dedicated changing rooms at the Heriot’s Centre, where you can also leave jackets, bags, etc (this is done at your own risk however, Black Boar nor the Heriot’s Centre bear any responsibility for personal belongings you choose to leave unattended). There are no lockers for storing personal items.

Other Facilities

Toilet and shower facilities are available on site. Whilst there are no food or drink facilities (cafeteria, vending machines, etc) there are water fountains located throughout the venue.

Centre Rules and Terms

The Heriot’s Centre have their own venue rules and terms of use, which you must respect and follow at all times. Please note, black soled footwear is not permitted in any of the sports halls. Full details can be found on the Heriot’s Centre for Sport and Exercise website.
